What is Coronary Angiography?
Coronary angiography is the gold-standard diagnostic procedure used to visualize blood flow through the heart's coronary arteries. By introducing a specialized radio-opaque dye through a catheter, interventional cardiologists get clear real-time X-ray imaging of any arterial blockages.
When is Primary Angioplasty (PTCA) Required?
During an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), a blood clot completely blocks a major coronary artery. Primary angioplasty inflates a tiny balloon to open the blocked vessel, followed by placing a drug-eluting stent (DES) to restore vital oxygen supply to the heart muscle within the golden hour.

Today, angioplasty is performed through the wrist (radial artery), causing minimal discomfort, zero bed rest complications, and allowing patient discharge within 24 to 48 hours.
